These two loan types get compared often, but they solve different problems. A personal loan is unsecured, faster to process, and suited to needs where you don't have — or don't want to pledge — collateral. A home loan is specifically for purchasing or constructing residential property, secured by that same property, and structured for a much longer tenure at a comparatively lower rate.
Medical emergencies, weddings, short-term business needs, or consolidating smaller high-interest debts are typical use cases. The trade-off for speed and no collateral is a higher interest rate and shorter tenure.
If you're buying, constructing or renovating a home, a home loan's lower rate and long tenure (up to 30 years) make monthly EMIs far more manageable than trying to fund the same purchase with a personal loan.
We occasionally see customers consider a personal loan for what is genuinely a home-related expense, simply because it feels procedurally simpler. In most cases, the long-term cost difference makes it worth the extra documentation for a home loan or loan against property instead. We're happy to run both scenarios for you before you decide.
